  • New York conference on new trends in the teaching of Spanish

    The first conference on the new trends in the teaching of Spanish will take place in New York on the 4th and 5th November. The event is organised by the Instituto Cervantes together with Princeton and Columbia Universities.

    The aims for the conference, according to the organisers, are twofold:

    •  Firstly, to analyse the current situation of the teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language and how it has evolved in the last few years.
    • Secondly, to establish a meeting place where teachers of Spanish can exchange ideas and experiences.

    The programme for the conference is as follows:

    
Friday 4th November
    16.00 – 16.45h: Coffee, enrolment and distribution of material
    16.45 – 17.00h: Presentation of the conference
    17.00 – 19.00h: Where have we come from? Where are we? And where are we going? Reflections on Spanish as a Foreign Language teaching materials. Neus Sans, Difusión.

    
Saturday 5th November:
    9.30 – 11.00h: Language and image: cognitive representations and grammatical meaning in aspectual contrast. Plácido Ruiz Campillo, Columbia University.
    11.00 – 11.30h: Coffee.
    11.30 – 13.00h: Towards an interactive learning focus: the Aprendo platform as an innovative teaching tool. Anais Holgado Lage, Dunia Catalina Méndez Vallejo, Adriana Meriño, Le Anne Spino-Seijas and Sylvia Zetterstrand. Princeton University.
    13.00 – 14.00h: Lunch.
    14.00 – 15.30h: How to make better use of class-time: flipped classrooms. Angelina Craig-Flórez and Reyes Llopis-García. Columbia University.
    15.30 – 16.00h: Coffee.
    16.00 – 17.30h: Do I like what I do? The emotional development of the Spanish teacher. Fernando López Murcia. Instituto Cervantes.
